At the Office of Environmental Health & Safety, we're committed to supporting safe and healthy academic exploration by Bucknell University students, faculty, staff and visitors.

By working closely with departments across campus, we help protect the University community from injury and illness. Our focus is on proactively identifying workplace hazards and safely managing these risks through training, assistance, oversight and the use of personal protective equipment.

Hazardous materials are a necessary part of Bucknell research. This includes hazardous chemicals, infectious materials and radioactive materials. We follow federal, state and Bucknell University regulations to ensure the proper handling, transportation and disposal of these materials.

In addition, our team:

  • Works with students and faculty to address any issues they may have regarding working safely in laboratories.
  • Supports our fellow employees with any workplace safety issues and concerns.
  • Ensures that Bucknell meets state and federal regulations regarding safety and the environment.

Emergencies and Other Incidents

Call 911 for life-threatening emergencies, including fires, explosions, serious injuries or any incident that poses an immediate threat to life or the environment.

For chemical, biological or radiological incidents that do not pose a life-threatening emergency, call:

If the incident involves the spill of a small quantity of a chemical, biological or radioactive material that you are familiar with and you have been trained in proper clean-up procedures, follow those instructions.

  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection: infectious waste and chemical reporting
