I love to carry out experiments in the lab, wearing gloves and goggles. On campus, I'm involved with a student organization, Chinese Culture Student Association (CCSA). I like to play tennis when the weather is great outside. I'm not an art person, but I appreciate if you want to share with me about it. I know a little bit of guitar and flute (haven't played for years though).

My IO experience last year was one of the best memories I have in Bucknell, and I'm so happy that I can experience it again with you guys! Do not hesitate to ask me if you have any questions. See you in August!!!

Leonard Orozco '18

Leonard Orozco '18

Whoaaaah! What an exciting thing to know that you are reading my bio! I grew up in a hot desert of Mexico eating spicy foods, but I also travelled frequently to the US where I enjoyed greasy hot dogs and cheesy burgers. I am majoring in the fascinating and challenging major of Math where I learned that 2 + 2 = 0 is true if you're not careful. I love speaking to different people and trying (with success or with failure) to make witty banter. Feel free to say hi to me with something like, "Hi Leo. I read your Bio. You're weird. Let's be friends." I will love you and leave you with one of my favorite math quotes:

"You have to be odd to be number one." Dr. Seuss.

Travel and experiencing different cultures has always been part of my life and I value the chance to socialise with new people.

International Orientation has been one of the best experiences for me at Bucknell so far. (You will soon realize why. WE'LL MAKE SURE OF IT.) During this time, you will make new friends from different part of the world, share your life experiences and culture with them, and build amazing memories.

I am very excited to meet you all.

Hey there fellow Bisons!

Congratulations on making it! Every action, every decision, conscious or unconscious, has led you here. Of all the possibilities, which include the unpleasant one of you going to Lehigh, this is what actually reached realization.

Let's take a moment to appreciate that.

My name is Mateen. Born and bred in Pakistan, but a citizen of the world. I am a junior majoring in Computer Engineering with a minor in Math. It's a busy life, but I find refuge in stuff like soccer, cheering for Liverpool, chess and weird music. On campus, I am involved with SAAB (Students for Asian Awareness at Bucknell) and am the Community Relations Manager for my fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

I'm (very impatiently) looking forward to meeting you this August. I want to know you, listen to your stories and have a few laughs together.

Chanda Singoyi '18

Hello wonderful Orientee!

I am Chanda Singoyi, a super senior, double majoring in Civil Engineering and Economics from Zambia. Congratulations on getting into Bucknell!

The friends you will make in the International Orientation program will be your friends/supporters for your entire time at Bucknell.

The only reason I do IO with you guys is because I enjoyed mine so much that I want to experience it again, whenever the opportunity comes. My word of advice: apart from making friends with the like minded people in IO, venture a conversation with someone who is a little quieter and maybe sitting alone in the bus.  I did that and found one of my very good friends at Bucknell.

Get excited!! Get ready to make friends with a lot of great people and with Bucknell!

International Orientation Leader (IOL)

Anmol Singh '18

Anmol Singh

Kyahaal ('watsup' in hindi)!!

I am Anmol, and I will be one of your lovely International Orientation Leaders (IOL). I come from the 2nd most populous country in the world, India. I am a senior, majoring in computer science and engineering and management. I love watching and playing tennis (any Nadal fans?), soccer (any Chelsea fans?) and cricket (any fans?).

Last year, I was in London doing a semester abroad program with King's College and enjoyed the hustle and bustle of the city life. This year, I am going to be a 5-year senior.  I am a lover of board games, a great reason to stop by. I will try my best to make your transition from school to college life as smooth as possible; and with this awesome group of IOAs, I can say that with some assurance. I wish you guys the very best on this new 4-year (or 5-year) journey, and hope that you guys make the most out of this orientation. So get all BUCKled up for this one crazy BUCKNELL ride!

International Orientation Assistant (IOA)

Kanishka Suwal '18

Kanishka Suwal '18

Kanishka the mysterious wandering soul,
So calm, so quiet, such a peaceful whole,
Brother of Ayush from the Suwal clan,
Lover of Science, Music and bran,
Who feels the wind, the sun, the moon,
Who needs some love, some world, some spoon.
He fears of drowning when on a boat, a cockroach at times, a rodent, too,
But gives food to the rodent and then, a beautiful sound with a guitar or two,
And also sometimes the didgeridoo.
He wants to ski on hills and cycle on hills and hike on hills and more
But as an engineer, carries a calculator for a fireside s'more,

As part of the IO team I dream
To seamlessly integrate all of you, into
This wonderful community in unity
And harmony.

Welcome to Bucknell!!!

International Orientation Assistant (IOA)

Minglu Xu '20

Minglu Xu '20

Hi! I'm Minglu and I'm a rising sophomore here at Bucknell. My intended major is Economics and I also hope to minor in Math and Philosophy. I was born in China, but have been living in Singapore since I was 4. In my freshmen year, I was part of the Languages and Cultures Residential College, Club Tennis and also the International Student Advisory Board. The transition from a hustling and bustling to Singapore to Lewisburg definitely took time, and so did getting used to the culture here halfway across the world. Rest assured that you're definitely not alone on this journey, and you are the reason the IO team is here. I'm so excited to meet all of you - IO's gonna be amazing!
