Earning a degree in chemical engineering, George Jenkins was class president, a member of the Bucknell Defense Council, Student Faculty Congress, and Sigma Chi fraternity. The vice chair of the Bucknell Board of Trustees, he has been a member of the National Alumni Board, president of the Metropolitan Alumni Club in New York, a class agent, and long-standing member of the Committee of 1000. Prior to his appointment as alumni director in 1982, he served on Bucknell's admissions staff. A recipient of the Bison Club award, he hosted a group of Bucknellians in 1983 who played in the first Orange Bowl as they traveled to Miami to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of that New Year's Day victory. In 1982, he accepted the position of national chairman of the Campaign for Bucknell. When the goal of $58.5 million was reached a year early, he presided over the extension of the campaign with an elevated target of $86.5 million that has been greatly exceeded. His leadership has had a significant impact on the physical facilities and endowment of this great university.
