While earning a degree in psychology, Ann Morrison was co-editor of L'Agenda, contributed to other student publications, and worked as a research assistant in the psychology department. She earned her master's degree from Bucknell in 1977.
From 1972-74, she served as an educational assistant at the University of Connecticut. Her strong interest in people led her to a position as a research associate for the Center for Creative Leadership in 1975, beginning an 18-year association with that renowned organization, which is headquartered in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Her work at that institute has focused on innovative management and leadership skills, and the policies and practices that effectively move women and people of color into senior management positions. At the institute, she earned the position of program associate as well as heading the center's branch offices on the West Coast. In 1989, her significant accomplishments led to her appointment as the head of the center's newest venture, the Leadership Diversity Group.
During these years, her work was being recognized nationally. She is the lead author of the book Breaking the Glass Ceiling: Can Women Reach the Top of America's Largest Corporations? She also authored The Lessons of Experience: How Successful Executives Develop on the Job. In 1992, she produced another notable work, The New Leaders: Guidelines on Leadership Diversity in America.
In 1992, she founded a management and consulting firm, the New Leaders Institute. Clients for her work in leadership development include such companies as IBM, General Electric, and Eastman Kodak.
