Graduating Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in chemistry, Bob Carman was extremely active at Bucknell - Christian Association, N.A.A.C.P., University Players, Men's Glee Club, Mixed Chorus, Kappa Chi Lambda, Phi Eta Sigma, Phi Sigma, and Omicron Delta Kappa.
He arrived at Bucknell from the North Arcot District in South India and would eventually follow in the footsteps of his parents, Dr. and Mrs. John Carman, who have made service to their fellowmen the mission of their lives.
After graduation, Bob Carman studied at the schools of medicine of the University of Rochester and the University of Minnesota. He pursued this goal in spite of financial adversity and several serious illnesses.
Since 1964, he has been a medical missionary to India, serving as a clinical pathologist and faculty member at the Christian Medical College and Hospital in Vellore, India. In addition to his preparation of students and technicians, he has performed research in clinical pathology and clinical biochemistry and has made several published contributions to these special fields. He also is the secretary of the Medical Board of the Samavesam of Telugu Baptist Churches.
His wife, Lucille, and children share in his mission.
Also skilled in singing, he has been applauded for his tenor solo performances in the works of Bach and Handel.
