Doug Lebda, Class of 1992, graduated with a BSBA in business administration. He was a member of DU and was a member of the crew team for 4 years. After graduation, Doug accepted a job with Price Waterhouse Coopers in Pittsburgh. While trying to finance his first home purchase, Doug grew frustrated by the arduous process of finding the best loan terms, and decided there needed to be a better way. He began working on a business plan that ultimately became LendingTree.com.
He left Price Waterhouse Coopers to enroll in an MBA program at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business. By the end of his first year he was named a Shermet Scholar and along with his wife Tara Garrity Lebda '94 had developed LendingTree to the point that he left business school to pursue LendingTree full time.
LendingTree was launched nationally in 1998, went public in early 2000, and in 2003 it was acquired by IAC, a $6.3 billion interactive conglomerate operating more than 60 leading and diversified brands including Ask.com, Ticketmaster, HSN, Match.com, Citysearch and Evite. Today, LendingTree - which has helped over 20 million people find loans from its marketplace of lenders has grown to over $420 million in revenues - is the anchor of IAC's growing stable of lending businesses. In late 2005, Doug was named IAC's President and COO, overseeing all of the company's businesses.
Doug's business successes have been recognized with an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award, the Council for Entrepreneurial Development's Trailblazer award, and the Inman Innovator of the Year award.
Doug has also found time for Bucknell. Doug is a past member of the Bucknell Alumni Association Board of Directors, and past chair of Delta Upsilon's Alumni Board of Directors. He currently serves on the Bucknell Business Advisory Board, and works with students enrolled in the Bucknell Institute for Leadership in Technology and Management (ILTM). He speaks regularly on campus and always finds time to help students in any way he can, informally or through the Career Development Center. He and Tara have been consistent financial supporters of Bucknell Mens Crew and the Management department, and recently helped lead the effort to name a teaching award after retiring MG101 Professor John Miller. He also maintains a high-level of involvement with the Darden School of Business, and is currently serving on its Board of Trustees.
Doug and his wife Tara Garrity Lebda, class of 1994, have two daughters: Rachel and Abby, and live in New York City.
It is with great pleasure that the Bucknell Alumni Association honors Douglas R. Lebda with its Young Alumni Award.
