Harvey Edwards graduated in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. He served two terms on the Alumni Board and has also been involved with the Black Alumni Association, serving on its board through June 30, 2009. Harvey has served on the Bison Club Board of Directors, served on his class Reunion gift committee, and registered to be a career mentor for Bucknellians.
Edwards is a high school English and Humanities Teacher and has been in the Selinsgrove (PA) Area School District for the past 21 years. He was a finalist for Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year in 2007. He was named Adviser of the Year for District VII of the Pennsylvania Association of Student Councils in 2001 and 2007. He is involved with Student Council and peer leadership groups. Edwards grew up in Brooklyn, NY and he has credited his passion for teaching to his high school days there. Edwards'
lessons are based on the National Writing Project. He was invited to address the recipients of the 2006 National Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards Ceremony in Carnegie Hall. He mentors student teachers and presents in-service training throughout central Pennsylvania. Edwards also directs the award-winning Selinsgrove Area High School Tolerance Troupe through which students travel to area schools, civic organizations, and conferences and perform interactive skits that mirror the realities of school environments and life situations. In 2006, he received Bucknell's Virginia Travis Lecture Award for Social Justice. In 2008, he received the Selinsgrove Rotary Club Distinguished Service Award.
In November 2008, Edwards was inducted into the Ultimate Frisbee Hall of Fame. He was a founder, captain, and player for the Bucknell Mudsharks team. In the 1990s, playing with a club team with several other Bucknellians, Edwards won three consecutive world championships in the sport. At Bucknell he also played Men's Basketball and participated as jazz program director for the WVBU radio station.
He is married to Patricia Edwards, Class of 1976.
