Sustainability requires innovative, interdisciplinary approaches to understanding and responding to some of society's most complex challenges. The Bucknell Center for Sustainability & the Environment links faculty, students and staff across one of Bucknell's most rapidly developing domains of teaching, research and practice. It includes three programs: Watershed Sciences & Engineering, Place Studies and Sustainable Design; and the Imagining Sustainability Initiative.
A named endowment for the center will support programs, faculty/student research, internships, and a fellows program for faculty, students, visiting scholars and post-docs.
The Institute for Leadership in Sustainability (ILS), an intensive six-week summer program, brings together faculty, students and visiting experts from across the disciplines to explore the complexities of sustainability in theory and practice. Students benefit from applied work experiences and projects sponsored by diverse partner organizations.
Endowed positions for faculty in sustainability studies will help professors support student projects, explore new themes of scholarship and creativity, engage in collaborative teaching and research, attract visiting lecturers and develop innovative curricula.
