Bucknell University students will lead a Solidarity March to Hufnagle Park in downtown Lewisburg on Tuesday, Oct. 6. Organized by the Social Justice Residential College and the Bucknell Student Government in collaboration with Lewisburg's CommUnity Zone and the Community Alliance for Respect & Equality, the event will support those who have been marginalized or silenced within their community.
Opening remarks will begin on Bucknell's Academic Quad at 5:30 p.m. Participants will then walk in silence to the park for a student-run and student-led program featuring music, dance, poetry and other performances from 6 to 7 p.m.
"The student organizers decided that we would walk together into the park in silence to represent those who have felt silenced by acts of discrimination and marginalization," said Professor Karline McLain, religious studies, a Senior Fellow of the Social Justice Residential College. "It is urgent that we continue to actively fight against discrimination on our campus and in our greater community. We invite all students, faculty, staff and community members to stand with us in solidarity as we witness the experiences of those affected by intolerance within our community."
