The Weis Center for the Performing Arts at Bucknell University will welcome New York-based So Percussion for a weeklong residency Aug. 1-6, as the group works intensively on a new performance piece titled A Gun Show.
On Saturday, Aug. 6, at 4 p.m. the public is invited to view one of the final rehearsals of this unique work. A post-performance discussion with the artists will follow. Admission for both the rehearsal and discussion is free.
In A Gun Show, which premieres this fall at the Next Wave Festival at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, So Percussion gives the Second Amendment a soundtrack in this affecting foray into America's fraught relationship with guns. A Gun Show is an exploration of these issues through music, text, and movement. Taking mallets to disassembled sniper rifles and assorted drums, the musicians serve as Greek chorus, commenting instrumentally on sung and spoken texts drawn from the nightmares and nostalgia of armed experiences.
