Lewisburg, Pa. — Early spring semester events at Bucknell include a performance by the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis at the Weis Center, a recital series by the Fitzwilliam String Quartet, readings with poet-in-residence Carol Frost and a Samek Art Gallery exhibit with Bucknell art professor William Lasansky and his former students.

Jan. 16 through June 5. Bertrand Library Exhibit. "Danville to Kansas: Bucknell Basketball," features the history of the sport at Bucknell, from the first men's game in 1895 to the first women's varsity team in 1973, to the Cinderella team of 2005, James A. Russell Exhibit Area, lower level 1.

Jan. 20. Weis Center Series. Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, 8 p.m., Weis Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets: $30. http://www.bucknell.edu/Weis_Center/Events.html

Jan. 21. Sonata Recital. Mary Hannigan, flute; Barry Hannigan, piano, 8 p.m., Rooke Recital Hall, Weis Music building. Works by Prokofiev, Otar Taktakishvili, and Jindrich Feld.

Jan. 28 through March 26. Samek Art Gallery Exhibit. "Carving in Context II" by Bucknell art professor William Lasansky. Exhibit focuses on granite carvings and includes selected works by his former students William Bennett, Peter Bevis, James Calvin, Georgia Gerber, Bruce Lindsay, Bob Marsh, Jon Riedeman, Allen C. Topolski, Eric Troffkin and Richard Zandler. Gallery talk with Lasansky and participating artists: Jan. 28, 3 p.m., Gallery Theatre. Feb. 13. Humanities Institute Lecture. "Is There a Feminine Genius?"Julia Kristeva, philosopher and feminist, 8 p.m. in Bucknell Hall at Bucknell University. Kristeva also will receive the Bucknell Award of Merit.

Feb. 14. Gallery Series. Paavali Jumppanen, piano soloist, 8 p.m., Rooke Recital Hall, Weis Music Building.

Feb. 17. Weis Center Series. Fugate / Bahiri BALLET NY, 8 p.m., Weis Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets: $20.

Feb. 18. Weis Center Series free family matinee. BALLET NY Dances for kids! 1 p.m., Weis Center for the Performing Arts. Through the generosity of Clayton and David Lightman and members of the Weis Center Green Room Board, this performance is free to the community.

Feb. 24. Weis Center Series. Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet with Jon Nakamatsu, piano; program includes works by Beethoven, Mozart, Ludwig Thuille, and Darius Milhaud, 8 p.m., Weis Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets: $20.

Feb. 25. Concert. Bucknell Concert Chorale, directed by William Payn, 8 p.m., Weis Center for the Performing Arts.

Feb. 26. Junior Recital. Sarah Latzy, soprano, and Melissa Mino, soprano, 2:30 p.m., Rooke Recital Hall, Weis Music Building

Feb. 27. Gamelan Performance, 8 p.m., Rooke Recital Hall, Weis Music Building. A performance by students on the gamelan as part of Asian Awareness Week.
