LEWISBURG, Pa. — Beginning June 1, Bucknell University will host nearly 4,000 visitors participating in about 40 conferences.
Students, faculty and visiting poets participating in the Seminar for Younger Poets will read from their works during the seminar June 1 to 22. Visiting poets include Terrance Hayes and Michael Waters; Stadler Center staff members are Paula Closson Buck, Deirdre O'Connor and Betsy Wheeler. Bucknell's annual Reunion Weekend will be held June 1-4. In addition to activities for returning alumni, the weekend will include a fireworks display June 3 at 10:30 p.m. viewable from the Academic Quad. For more information about Reunion, see http://www.bucknell.edu/reunion
The Bucknell summer school session will be held June 12-July 21.
Returning groups include: Kiwanis June 9-11; Pennsylvania Bankers Association (PBA) Trust School June 18-23; PBA School of Commercial Lending July 9-14; and PBA School of Banking July 23-28; Pennsylvania Institute for Conservation Education June 19-21; Technology Student Association July 10-11; PACAC July 16-19; Renaissance Nutrition July 17-19; and Loyalsock Band July 23-28.
Religious groups include School of Christian Missions July 14-16 and July 17-20, and Episcopal Diocese July 20-22.
Sports camps include lacrosse camp June 22-25; wrestling camps June 30-July 2 and July 9-13; Bison Shoot-Out Tournament June 16-17; rowing camps June 18-22 and June 25-29; softball day camp June 19-22; boys basketball June 19-23 and June 25-29; girls basketball June 29-July 2 and July 23-27; girls field hockey July 6-9; boys soccer July 9-13 and July 16-20; water polo July 16-20 and July 20-24; girls soccer July 23-27; cross country/track July 23-27; and baseball July 27-30.
Other sports events include the Mid-Atlantic Swim Championship July 12-15 and the Susquehanna Valley League Swimming Championships July 29, both in the Kinney Natatorium.
July 22: Cavalcade of Champions (drum and bugle corps competition), 7 p.m. Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. Tickets ($19 reserved seat. $16 general admission) will be available from the Weis Center Box Office June 27 through July 22 weekdays between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The summer conferences program at Bucknell originated as a way to provide year-round employment to university staffs, according to Judy Mickanis, director of reservation, information and conference services. "The program offers a wide range of facilities in an educational, professional atmosphere," she said.
