LEWISBURG, Pa. — Every year, thousands of Bucknell alumni return to the university to celebrate Reunion.
This year, the local community is invited to join in the celebration with a fireworks display June 3 at 10:30 p.m.
According to Melissa McBrayer, assistant director of alumni programs at Bucknell, spectators may view the fireworks from the academic quad in the front of the Bertrand Library.
Parking will be available in the farm lot located off Seventh Street or above the stadium. Dent Drive between Seventh Street and Stadium will be closed from 9 to 11:30 p.m.
"The fireworks are a new addition to Reunion this year, and we're very excited to be able to invite the community," said McBrayer.
A highlight of the weekend is Reunion Rally, when all returning alumni gather in the Weis Center to present class gifts and recognize the Alumni Award winners honored by the Bucknell University Alumni Association Board of Directors.
Honored this year will be Brenda Earl DePaola, a 1981 graduate, who will receive the Award for Outstanding Achievement in a Chosen Profession; James Owens, a 1986 graduate, who will be honored for Service to Humanity; and 1991 graduates Peter Rovick and Mitchell Blumenfeld, who will receive the Young Alumni Award.
In addition, six members from the Class of 1956 who have been members of the University's Board of Trustees will receive the Loyalty Award, given for extraordinary service, dedication and commitment to alma mater. They are David Ekedahl, Ernest Kalman, Arthur Kinney Jr., James Leo, Samuel Posner, and James Schubauer.
