LEWISBURG, Pa. — Bucknell University and Susquehanna Valley Women in Transition will sponsor the "Take Back the Night" Rally and March Against Sexual Assault Tuesday, April 5, in Hufnagle Park in downtown Lewisburg.
According to Molly Dragiewicz, director of the Women's Resource Center at Bucknell, entertainment begins at 7 p.m. and the rally at 7:30.
"Everyone is invited to participate as the Lewisburg community unites to Take Back the Night," said Dragiewicz.
"This year's rally focuses on celebrating the strength of survivors, and encouraging those who have been sexually assaulted to begin the path to healing by speaking out and accessing the resources available to them."
The even will include music, a dance performance, speakouts, a march through the community, and a reception.
Take Back the Night is an annual event in many communities around the world. Speakouts provide a forum for survivors to talk about their experiences in order to educate the community about the prevalence and impact of rape and other forms of sexual assault.
This year's event is co-sponsored by the Deans of Students Office, Delta Gamma sorority, the Interfraternity Council, Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, One in Four, the Panhellenic Council, Pi Beta Phi sorority, Sirens, and V-Day.
"The march through the community sends a message that sexual assault will not be tolerated in Lewisburg or on the Bucknell campus," said Dragiewicz.
