LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell University alumni, numbering more than 47,000 worldwide, will have easily accessible and readily available alumni news and university event information thanks to a unique collaboration between Bucknell, the nation's largest private liberal arts university, and A4AMobile®, the one-stop solution for scalable, results-oriented, mobile marketing. Bucknell and A4AMobile today announced the launch of a carrier-independent, alumni mobile wireless platform and WAP-site (Wireless Application Protocol).
The Bucknell Alumni Wireless Community will allow the University's alumni to opt in to receive Bucknell information on their cell phones. Through this pilot program, users will be able to view a special Web page designed for mobile phones, and receive text messages about important campus and alumni announcements.
Available by texting the word BUJOIN to the short code 299669, or by opting in on the University alumni Web site, this pioneering service gives alumni immediate access to what's happening on campus, alumni and career development news, and university event information specific to three distinct groups – those who graduated 1-5 years ago; 6-10 years ago, and 11 or more years ago. Alerts will be received via mobile devices and/or e-mail.
Next step in digital technology
The service is the next step in Bucknell's use of digital technology – including portals, blogs, and podcasts – for information-sharing.
