Young Alumni Success Stories

“Of all the options for the last four years, Bucknell gave me the widest array of tools to take into the world. It also gave me the confidence to use them.It is exceedingly difficult to judge where I would be now if I did not have the privilege of a Bucknell education. The foundation of my positive experience was the opportunity to grow in my faith in Catholic Campus Ministry. Next was the set of friendships that formed with a host of some rock solid individuals, including a girl for whom I have yet to hear an adequate love song. As to academics, I'm grateful for a world class engineering education within a balanced liberal arts curriculum. I value the intensity of the chemical engineering courses equally with the breadth and diversity of electives and other opportunities, such as Institute for Leadership in Technology and Management. Essential to this feeling of having a complete academic experience are the professors who go far beyond just being effective teachers or researchers, but mentors, role-models and friends.” - Justin Greenly ’08 in graduate school at Cornell University, studying chemical engineering
Robin Stevenson ’08
"While I was a student at Bucknell, I was really able to find myself. Having so many opportunities to explore different interests helped me to narrow down my career choices while I was still in school. As soon as I thought I might be interested in something, there was someone at Bucknell who could help me explore that new interest. When I came to Bucknell, there were so many things I wanted to learn that I didn't know what I wanted to do after school. I was able to pursue all of the things I cared about at Bucknell and, ironically, being so involved helped me to gain focus.” - Robin Stevenson ’08 working with the Prince George's County Teaching Fellows, teaching Kindergarten in a high-need public school
Sarah Cummings '08
"Bucknell not only trained my mind to think in a sophisticated and scholarly way, but it also helped prepare me for real-world challenges outside of the classroom. My Bucknell education taught me the value of hard work, independent thinking and commitment to higher ideals of enlightenment. Most importantly, though, I look back on my time at Bucknell as a course in the development of the full person. Balancing intellectual development with extracurricular challenges, and of course social activities, is a skill that has proven to translate into success for many Bucknell graduates." - Sarah Cummings '08 studying at University of Virginia School of Law
Stephanie Consoli ’08
“Bucknell gave me a strong liberal arts background and a set of skills that are useful to succeed in any field. Specifically, the research experience that I had at Bucknell both in classes and independently working with a professor helped to prepare me for my current job. Analyzing, critical thinking, and the research methods I learned at Bucknell are all essential skills that I use on a daily basis and having this previous knowledge gives me confidence in my new academic environment." - Stephanie Consoli ’08 working at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Nursing as a research coordinator for the Bio-behavioral and Health Sciences division
"The Bucknell professors that I worked with, especially in the Department of Chemical Engineering, were inspirational in both teaching and research. I was constantly challenged to work harder and push the limits of my conceptualizations. Certainly the excellent instruction I received over my four years in Lewisburg aided my success in the classroom, but more significant for me was the ability to solicit perspectives from a group of brilliant academics outside of the classroom on nearly any topic. Without the support of my department at Bucknell, I have doubt that I would have been able to make even what little progress that I have thus far.
"Of course, as important as the faculty was to my academic growth, the support of my many friends and classmates was perhaps even more fundamental. To be able to work, study and spend time with such an intelligent group of people for four years was worthwhile in and of itself, and I learned time and again that there is no better way to figure out if you really understand a concept than to try to explain it to Bucknell engineers. As much as anything else, it was my fellow scholars that inspired and challenged me to reach for greater heights." - Nicholas Young ’08 in graduate school at University of California, Berkeley
