LEWISBURG, Pa. — The Weis Center for the Performing Arts at Bucknell University will end its 2012-13 Series with a two-day kid-friendly event.
Erth's Dinosaur Petting Zoo will be held Friday, May 31, at 5:30 p.m. at Hufnagle Park in downtown Lewisburg and on Saturday, June 1, at 2 p.m. on the lawn across from the Weis Center. Both events are free and open to the public; tickets are not required.
This event is sponsored, in part, by the Lewisburg Downtown Partnership and the Children's Museum in Bloomsburg.
In this show, children get to meet Erth's awesome prehistoric creatures, from cute baby dinos to teeth-gnashing giants. Children can watch wide-eyed from a safe distance or dare to get right up close to these creatures. Audiences will have the opportunity to feed, water and care for these prehistoric marvels via simple lessons in animal husbandry.
Erth's Dinosaur Petting Zoo is an experiential theatre performance featuring a cast of large-scale dinosaur puppets brought to life by sophisticated design, electronics and theatrical presentation. These amazingly life-like dinosaur recreations are developed in consultation with paleontologists, based on current science and specialist interpretations of dinosaur fossil evidence.
Erth's dinosaur puppets stimulate the imagination about dinosaur life in a way that connects children to the real science of paleontology. Sydney Morning Herald says of the performance, "It's a rare and pleasurable work that manages technical brilliance, cultural insight and enchantment all in one go."
Based in Australia, Erth has gained a reputation worldwide for creating original live theatre at the forefront of new performance practice. Since its beginnings in 1990, the company has strived to provide audiences with eye-popping visual experiences. Giant puppetry, stilt-walkers, inflatable environments, aerial and flying creatures are only the beginning of the Erth experience. Their vision has brought them all over the world and continues to spread its distinct appreciation for the audience's imagination in a realm unprecedented in its boundless ambition.
