Majors in Computer Science (BSCS Degree) will be able to:

Understand strategies for effective design and their application in designing computing systems. (1,2,4,6,8)

Understand the use of structured development methodologies as applied to both large software systems and to small programming projects. (1,2,4,6,8)

Understand the use of abstraction in the design, implementation and use of computing systems. (1,2,4,6,8)

Understand the use and structure of the common mechanisms for formally describing software and hardware structures. (1,2,4,6,8)

Understand standard measuring and analysis techniques and their application to the evaluation of computing structures. (1,2,4,6,8)

Understand the structure of a computing system, the design of its basic components and the interactions of hardware and software components. (1,2,4,6,8)

Demonstrate an ability to expand and/or deepen their knowledge in areas of computer science beyond the core curriculum. (1,8,9)

Understand and appreciate:

The constraints imposed by society and institutions in response to new methods for processing and exchanging information; and how technical constraints limit solutions desired by society and institutions in both local and global contexts. (2,3,4

Understand the underlying structure and appropriate uses of modern tools of the computing profession. (1,4,6,8)

Demonstrate a breadth of education in mathematics and sciences, to participate effectively in the field of computer science. (1,2,4,6,8)

Understand the theory and application of the scientific principles which underlie the physical characteristics of modern computers. (1,2,6,8)

Understand the methodologies, modes of thought and communication, and values applied in a range of disciplines within the humanities and social sciences. (3,4,5)

Be effective communicators and to function well in multi-disciplinary teams. (3,5,7)

Recognize the need for, and have the ability to engage in, life-long learning. (8,9)
