LEWISBURG, Pa. — Steven Stumbris has been named director of the Small Business Development Center at Bucknell University.
Stumbris, who has been serving as interim director since January, was named assistant director for technical consulting in 2007. During that time he has assisted SBDC clients through its Engineering Development Services program to bring numerous innovative new products to market.
"So far this year, the SBDC has helped 22 entrepreneurs start their own business, and two clients in particular, Vargo Outdoors of Lewisburg and Pompeii Street Soap Company in Mifflinburg, have completed major expansion projects resulting in new jobs in our area," said Stumbris.
"I look forward to helping these and other businesses in our region start, grow, and prosper," he said.
"Steve has already made significant contributions to the Center and to the culture of entrepreneurship in the Bucknell community," said Keith Buffinton, dean of the College of Engineering at Bucknell.
"I am extremely pleased that Steve will be the new director of the Bucknell Small Business Development Center. He brings a great background of experience to the position, and I'm sure will be very effective in promoting economic development in the region and creating great learning opportunities for our students," said Buffinton.
Prior to joining the Bucknell administration, Stumbris worked for 12 years as a product development, engineering, and manufacturing professional with experience in industries as diverse as electronics, wood products, plastics processing, and construction equipment.
He holds his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University and is pursuing a Master of Professional Studies in Community and Economic Development at Penn State.
For nearly 30 years, the Bucknell SBDC has provided free small business consulting services to residents of Juniata, Montour, Northumberland, Perry, Snyder and Union counties. Student interns perform research and provide information to clients and Bucknell faculty and staff serve as expert advisers.
