The Teaching and Learning Center runs a number of programs and workshops throughout the year designed to foster reflection and conversation about teaching and learning. | View an archive of past TLC events.
Programs for New Faculty include a a pedagogy and course design workshop in early August, a day-long orientation to Bucknell, a community orientation for families of new faculty, and the New Faculty Pedagogy Series, a weekly luncheon discussion group designed to assist and support new faculty as they adjust to their first year at Bucknell.
The Friday Learning Series includes luncheon presentations and discussions on a wide range of topics. The presentations are short and designed to fit an already busy schedule while providing an opportunity to keep in touch with members of the faculty and other University staff.
Learning Communities are intended to provide venues for faculty to study and collaborate with colleagues interested in the same topic. The participants meet through the course of the semester, and focus their discussion upon a text or a selection of readings. The results of their research and discussion are typically shared with the campus community through a presentation, paper, or website.
The Faculty Mentoring Program supports faculty members at all levels of experience. Mentoring can focus on any aspect of professional activity, including classroom teaching, developing a program of scholarship, advising on promotion to full professor, seeking external funding, advising on time management, and acclimating to the local community. The Faculty Mentoring Program seeks to identify the particular needs of the faculty member and to meet those needs in the best possible fashion.
