Research Interests

I am a clinical psychologist with specialty training in geropsychology, which is a subdiscipline that applies the knowledge and methods of clinical psychology to understand and help older adults and their families maintain wellness, navigate challenges, and achieve their potential as they age and through the end-of-life.

I run the Aging, Personality, and Psychopathology (APP) Lab, which has three main areas of research:

  1. Expression and clinical assessment of personality pathology across the lifespan. How does personality pathology change over the course of someone’s life as they grow older? How do we best assess personality pathology in older adults that account for some of these changes?
  2. Interactions between aging and psychopathology, with a specific focus on the biopsychosocial context of older adulthood. For example, how do changes in physical or cognitive health, grief and loss, housing transitions, and caregiving impact experiences of psychopathology?
  3. Dimensional classification systems of psychopathology and their applicability to older adulthood. How do newer, dimensional models impact assessment of psychopathology in older adults? What problems do they address and what problems do they create?
