After an extensive national search, Bucknell University President John Bravman announced today that H. Daniel Hungerford, vice president of finance & administration at St. Bonaventure University since 2018, will be Bucknell's vice president for finance & administration and chief financial officer. His anticipated start date is Sept. 3.
With a distinguished career of more than 35 years spanning strategic planning, budgeting, financial analysis and comprehensive management, Hungerford brings a wealth of experience to the role. In his six years at St. Bonaventure, he helped develop and manage projects totaling over $60 million, including the opening of the new School of Health Professions and significant campus renovations.
"Dan Hungerford brings a significant record of success in financial management and strategic planning within higher education," says Bravman. "His ability to optimize resources, implement effective financial strategies and foster collaboration will be invaluable to Bucknell as we continue to advance our mission and strategic goals."
Prior to his role at St. Bonaventure, Hungerford was vice president for finance & administration at Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., for three years (2015-18), where he led the renovation of a $14.5 million Christian center and the construction of a $4.5 million visual arts center. His efforts in financial planning and budget management consistently resulted in increased operational efficiencies and profitability at Millsaps.
He also served as controller at both Marietta (Ohio) College for four years (2011-15) and the HealthSouth Corporation in Parkersburg, W. Va., for two years (2009-11).
"I am both honored and humbled to join Bucknell University and contribute to its legacy of excellence in education," Hungerford says. "I look forward to working with the dedicated team at Bucknell as we pave the future path via enhancing financial sustainability, developing and supporting strategic initiatives, and fostering an environment of collaboration and transparency."
Hungerford's career achievements also include the implementation of budgeting and contribution margin tools that have increased efficiencies in program delivery at multiple institutions. Additionally, he brings broad experience with compensation studies, financial reporting and audit compliance.
