Meet Bucknell's Newly Tenured Professors

Eleven faculty members recently received University tenure — recognition of excellence in teaching and scholarship in topics that include fruit flies, the gamelan, accounting and free-floating planets.

Tenure represents a long-term commitment between Bucknell and a faculty member, who can expect to continue his or her career teaching and researching at the University. The Board of Trustees in April approved the professors' promotion to tenured positions.

"Attaining tenure and the rank of associate professor means the transition from a professor's apprenticeship to her or his senior status in the profession," said Provost Barbara Altmann. "Getting promoted isn't simply an end in itself — it proves that the faculty member already has a successful track record in all the elements of the teacher/scholar role and great promise for a long career of productive and innovative work."
