New Staff Orientation
The Division of Talent, Culture & Human Resources is dedicated to the success of Bucknell’s new staff members as well as their ongoing professional development. Learn about the ways we ensure that you are well positioned to thrive and grow in your new job at the University.
Preparing to Start
Staff at Bucknell begin onboarding and orientation as early as the interviewing and selection process, when they learn about the University, their department and their position. They also receive preliminary information regarding Bucknell employee benefits during this time.
Once a job offer has been accepted, new employees provide the necessary information to set up the equipment, accounts and access to job-related information they'll need, so that they will be ready to start work on their first day at Bucknell.
Orientation
New staff attend a four-hour general orientation session where they receive further introduction and information about Bucknell and its culture. Here, they also complete required onboarding steps in areas such as payroll, safety, and additional forms and documents. Most new staff are invited to join their supervisor or a member of their team for lunch and further initial orientation to their new department.
During the first month of employment, staff are assigned several e-learning modules that provide key information for new members of our community. They also receive an orientation checklist with helpful information to make their transition to Bucknell successful.
Staff are then invited and encouraged to attend a follow-up orientation program called Get to Know Bucknell. In this interactive program, new hires meet other staff and receive more information to help them further acclimate to employment in higher education. The program includes presentations from a variety of areas such as:
- Academics
- Athletics & Recreation
- Wellness
- Diversity
- Student Life & Campus Activities
- University Advancement
- Technology
- Civic Engagement
- The performing arts
An expanded tour of campus and Bucknell’s presence in the downtown community is also included.
