Feb. 2, 2017: Update on White House Executive Order
Dear Bucknellians,
Since I wrote to you on Saturday about the White House's Executive Order (EO) entitled "Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States," Bucknell has joined colleges and universities across the country in trying to predict the EO's immediate and long-term impact. Unfortunately, in light of the lack of clarity from the White House and implementing agencies, this is a difficult task.
Bucknell General Counsel Amy Foerster and Assistant Counsel Lynda Meinke have been staying abreast of this important matter through communications with attorneys at other institutions of higher education, as well as outside immigration counsel. Amy has provided an update regarding the information available to us.
As I stated in my note on Saturday, this is a fluid situation, and we will continue to keep you apprised of any significant developments. We are currently working to create a web resource so relevant updates and information can be kept in one easily accessible location, and we will share details on that project once it is completed later this week. You may also direct your questions on this and related issues to either Amy at acf012@bucknell.edu or Lynda at lmeinke@bucknell.edu. Both Amy and Lynda can also be reached by calling 570-577-1149.
Our commitment to creating and supporting an inclusive, diverse campus is steadfast - doing so provides all of us with a much richer living-learning community. While Bucknell supports appropriate efforts to strengthen national security, it opposes the overreaching nature of this EO, and we will continue to stand with and fully support our international students, faculty and staff.
My best,
John C. Bravman
