FAQ

• Are fraternity meal plans mandatory?

  No, members do not need to purchase a chapter meal plan and may continue to utilize their University meal plan if they so choose. Chapter members could also have both a University and a chapter meal plan. New members will have the opportunity to convert or add a chapter meal plan when accepting their bids. There is a deadline for meal plan selection and no exceptions can be made once that date has passed.

   

• When can I join an organization?

  The University has a deferred recruitment process, meaning that students can not join a greek-letter organization until at least their sophomore year. This allows first-year students to engage in their academics and develop a sense of belonging at Bucknell University.

   

• What support/resources are there for members?

  The Fraternity and Sorority Affairs office provide various support opportunities to help our students thrive within their organizations and at Bucknell. Additionally, we collaborate with other offices to create a larger foundation of resources throughout campus.

   

• Is there financial support available?

  Each governing council offers an opportunity to receive a scholarship for national dues through an application process. This is a competitive process that usually goes live in the spring or summer before recruitment. The national organizations also have scholarships available on their websites.

   

• What are ways I can get to know the organizations?

  Panhellenic and Interfraternity Councils provide various opportunities to connect with the organizations prior to recruitment. Some opportunities center around the history of each organization, as well as service opportunities to get to know the organizations through their passion for giving back.

   

• Is it required to live in the house/suite?

  The houses and suites have to remain full to remain in good standing with the University. Housing is determined through each organization by a lottery/selection process.

• What happens after a student joins?

  After joining a lettered organization, students will go through two new member education processes (one through the chapter and one through the FSA office) to assist them with the knowledge and tools they need to be successful in their lettered organization.

   

• Are there opportunities to network with alumni?

  Each of our organizations has a strong alumni connection with Bucknell alumni as well as alumni from other institutions. Each organization will connect its members to its national network. Bucknell also hosts events for chapters to meet their Bucknell-specific alumni.
