Community Impact Assistant Internship Program

The Community Impact Assistant Summer Internship Program is an eight-week paid summer internship program that matches student interns with local community partners. Throughout the internship, students work alongside the community partner staff for up to 40 hours per week to address a community-identified priority, such as housing insecurity, food insecurity and mental health. This internship provides students with the opportunity to gain invaluable hands-on experience and engage with the community. Internship positions are paid with funds from the Center for Community Engaged Leadership, Learning & Research gift funds.

This program is co-administered by the Bucknell Center for Community Engaged Leadership, Learning & Research and local Community Partner organizations. Bucknell and community partners work together to support the Bucknell student interns and collect feedback throughout the internship period through check-ins with students and supervisors.

Community partners are encouraged to design opportunities that student interns can perform for up to 40 hours per week in order to give the students the chance to engage with the community and gain the most experience from the project.

Students interested in learning more about the opportunities and applying for the internship are encouraged to check Bison@Work in Feb. 2025. Here, students will find descriptions of the organizations and projects as well as application deadlines.

The Center for Community Engaged Leadership, Learning & Research will support student interns' transportation needs for reaching the partner site and Bucknell Housing Services will provide students with the opportunity to apply for summer campus housing. The applications for summer housing will be available in Spring 2025.

Requirements

Community Impact Assistant (CIA) summer internships are for students from all majors. Applicants must be current Bucknell students and are required to live on or near campus.

Students will work on-site for up to 40 hours per week at a local community partner organization for the eight-week internship period. Summer CIA interns may have a training requirement at the beginning of their internship, depending on the community partner site training requirements.

Throughout your employment, you will be required to submit your time in Workday biweekly.

How to Apply

  1. Find a summer Community Impact Assistant internship opportunity that interests you on Bison@Work in February–March 2025.
  2. Submit your application through Bison@Work and include your current resume.

Note: To be hired through Student Employment for the summer internship, you will need documentation to enroll in payroll. Additionally, certain positions may require clearances, which the Center for Community Engaged Leadership, Learning & Research or the community partner can help to facilitate.

Intern Selection and Hiring

Prospective interns will be selected for interviews once applications have been reviewed by the Center for Community Engaged Leadership, Learning & Research and the community partner.

Interviews will be held by a supervisor from the community partner and a staff member from the Center. When all the interviews are complete (between March and April 2025), the hiring process will begin.

If hired, your information will be submitted through Workday and you will be contacted by Student Employment to complete your employment documentation (if you haven’t already been hired on campus in the past). Once all the documentation is complete, you will receive information about your start date.
