Insurance Requirement
All full-time undergraduate students (taking three or more classes) and all full-time graduate students (those in a degree-seeking program and taking two or more courses per semester) attending Bucknell must enroll in or waive the health insurance coverage offered through the University each year. Students who waive coverage of the sponsored plan must provide verifiable proof of comparable coverage. Students are required to complete the waiver or enrollment each year.
If you do not complete the online waiver form prior to Aug. 1, your University account will be charged $3,785.88 for the price of the policy premium, and refunds will not be available after Sept. 1. Parents or guardians may waive or enroll on their student's behalf.
Questions about the plan or the enrollment or waiver process may be directed to Paige Fritze at bucknell@rcmd.com or 800-346-4075, ext. 1607.
Questions About Coverage
Health insurance coverage can be very confusing and sometimes expensive. It is advised to call your health insurance company to best understand coverage for services in this area before arriving to Bucknell. Please note that Bucknell Student Health will consider all plans, regardless of carrier, as in-network but will not appear in plan-specific websites. Student Health is available to answer questions about where your insurance may be accepted locally.
Please contact the student insurance liaison at insurance@bucknell.edu or 570-577-1159.
University-provided Accident Insurance
Bucknell provides all students with accident insurance through a University-sponsored policy. There is no cost to students for this coverage and no need to sign up — all registered Bucknell students will automatically be enrolled for the coverage period of July 30, 2024, through July 30, 2025.
The accident insurance plan is designed to pay for excess injury-related medical expenses that are not paid by a student's primary health insurance plan. This will cover deductibles, coinsurance amounts and co-pays that would normally be out-of-pocket expenses. The plan will pay up to $5,000 per injury for up to two years from the accident date. Please note that the plan will insure students both on campus and at home and will cover excess medical expenses due to injury for most accidents, not just those related to Bucknell programs.
