A function of Bucknell's advancement division, corporate, foundation and government relations (CFGR) collaborates with University leadership, faculty and staff to make connections and secure funding to develop new programs, support research and propel the University's mission. Our work establishes and maintains strategic relationships with a broad range of local and national corporations, foundations and government agencies as we secure funding that fosters collaboration.

The Corporate, Foundation and Government Relations Office (CFGR), a division of University Advancement, collaborates with University leadership, faculty and staff to make connections and secure primarily gift funding to develop new programs, support research and propel the University's strategic mission.
Bucknell's Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) supports principal investigators, project directors and collaborators in identifying grant funders, developing strategies for seeking external support, submitting proposals to public and private organizations, and managing institutional, federal and research compliance regulations.
The College of Engineering Industry Partnerships works to secure projects and funding for engineering senior design projects. Companies, non-profits, schools or individuals are invited to partner with us on identifying projects that will:
- Utilize our students' knowledge and abilities to benefit your organization.
- Help you solve a challenge or a problem.
- Aid in your recruitment efforts.
- Enhance our students' education with real-world project experiences.
CFGR, OSP and Engineering Industry Partnerships work closely together for the benefit of Bucknell University.
Gifts and grants are two distinct forms of financial support for universities, each with its own characteristics and implications.

Gifts:
- Often made by individuals, foundations, corporations and other private donors
- Unrestricted funds that can be used for various purposes, with few or no restrictions beyond broad areas or purposes
- Can be one-time or ongoing donations without a specific end date
- Recognition acknowledged through naming opportunities, donor events or other forms of public recognition
- Tax deductible for the donor
Grants:
- Often made by government agencies, non-profit organizations or other funding bodies
- Have strict guidelines, requirements and reporting obligations that must be followed by the recipient institution
- Awarded for specific purposes including research, educational programs and other initiatives
- Typically awarded for a defined period, such as one year, or the duration of a particular research project, and may require renewal or reapplication for continued funding
- May or may not be considered taxable income for the recipient institution, depending upon terms and conditions
- Typically acknowledged by citing the funding source in publications, presentations or other outputs resulting from the grant
